6-Nights Best Of The Netherlands

Famous for its tulips, windmills, and wooden clogs, Holland is a delightful country with scenic landscapes, historic monuments, and vibrant cities. You’ll get to know the country on this affordable tour of the Netherlands starting and ending in Amsterdam. Amsterdam, Holland’s capital, is a pleasant, 700-year-old city whose elegant and classic architecture, cafés and restaurants, renowned museums, and picturesque canals-not to mention the bike paths throughout the city-make for a pleasurable atmosphere. Here, your city tour includes a cruise-the best way to see Amsterdam-through the elegant canals lined with stately homes dating back to Amsterdam’s "Golden Age." On this Holland tour, you’ll also stay in Rotterdam, a young city with the world’s busiest port and known for its modern architecture and design, as well as in some of the minor but interesting towns where you’ll discover the rural atmosphere of this country. The Netherlands are known for their flower production, which you will experience on the visit to the fascinating Aalsmeer flower auction where more than 20 million plants and flowers are sold daily. (Note that from April to May, the Aalsmeer flower auction visit is replaced by a visit to the spectacular 70-acre Keukenhof garden to see the incredible display of colors from seven million flower bulbs.) You’ll also enjoy a visit of the Royal Delft Pottery Factory to see how this precious pottery is made. Visit Gouda, known for its namesake cheese and seasonal cheese market, regularly held on the medieval Markt square. Take a stroll in Volendam, known for its old fishing boats, characteristic small houses, drawbridges, and canals. Additionally, drive over the 19-mile Barrier Dam, constructed to protect the part of Holland that is below sea level. For the value-minded traveler wanting to have an in-depth experience of the Netherlands, this is the perfect vacation!

Featured Destinations

Amsterdam

Cosmopolitan Amsterdam is most famous for its narrow, gabled houses lining the canals. Interesting attractions include the medieval weighhouse, Royal Palace on Dam Square, and New Church. Its most glamorous industry is the diamond trade. Not too far from Amsterdam are the flower centers of Aalsmeer, the picturesque fishing villages of Volendam and Marken, cheese markets at Edam and Gouda, and historic Haarlem, the main center of the bulb-growing industry. Enjoy the city’s sights from a glass-topped sightseeing boat which passes characteristic gabled houses and negotiates picturesque arched bridges. Facing Dam Square, the Royal Palace was built in 1648 and is still officially the royal residence, although the royal family resides in The Hague. The marbled Citizens Hall with inlaid maps of the world is worth seeing. One of Amsterdam’s most visited sites is historic Anne Frank House. Rijksmuseum, the city’s most prestigious museum, houses the largest collection of Dutch paintings in the world. Van Gogh Museum houses a striking collection.

Rotterdam

Rotterdam is the Dutch city with a difference. City on the river Maas, number 1 world port. An architectural and cultural metropolis with many attractions, festivals and museums. A vivacous, young urban culture and a superlative selection of shops, restaurants and cafes.

Groningen

Groningen is a city with many faces. For the Dutch, Groningen is in the first place a student-city, but a rich history has also provided the city with historical buildings, courtyards and of course 'Uncle Loek's Horse'. Modern architecture can also be found, and Goningen's sporty side reflects in the fact it has been chosen 'world's best bicycling city. Of all the old Dutch towns, Amsterdam, Leiden and Groningen possess the greatest number of almshouses. Due to these islands of tranquillity, the inner city of Groningen has remained a pleasant residential area. It is possible to make a walking tour past the Groningen Gasthuizen (Almshouses).

Arnhem

Arnhem is one of the most fascinating cities of Holland and has everything to make your stay unforgettable. Whether you enjoy culture, or walking or cycling, whether you want to visit one of the larger attractions, or just want to shop or go out, then Arnhem is the place for you.
