Cape Town is southern Africa's most beautiful, most romantic and most-visited city. Few urban centers anywhere can match its setting along the Cape Peninsula spine, which slides like the mighty tail of the continent into the Atlantic Ocean. By far the most striking - and famous - of its sights is Table Mountain, frequently mantled by clouds, and rearing up from the middle of the city to provide a constantly changing vista to the suburbs below. Table Mountain is the city's solid core which divides the city into distinct zones with public gardens, wilderness, forests, hiking routes, vineyards and desirable residential areas trailing down it's lower slopes.

Walvis Bay
Suggested Private Excursion

4/25/2020 4:00:00 PM

Walvis Bay is the principal port for Namibia. Its harbor, protected by Pelican Point peninsula, provides one of the few safe deep-water anchorages on the Atlantic coast of south-western Africa. It is also a magical spot for birdlovers and a gateway to Namibia's hauntingly beautiful lunar-like desert landscapes. Visit Namibia's pretty seaside resort of Swakopmund, whose elegant turn-of-the-century German buildings belong more to Bavaria than Africa! Easily reached is famous Cape Cross Seal Reserve, home of up to 100,000 Cape fur seals - and the grandeur of the Namib-Naukluft Park, whose sand dunes rising to over 1,000 ft are the world's highest.

Jamestown
4/28/2020 10:00:00 AM
4/28/2020 6:00:00 PM

Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in the New World, was established in 1607, more than a decade before Pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts. Today at Jamestown Settlement, the story of the people who founded Jamestown and of the Virginia Indians they encountered is told through film, gallery exhibits and living history. Gallery exhibits trace Jamestown's beginnings in England and the first century of the Virginia colony and describe the cultures of the Powhatan Indians, Europeans and Africans who converged in 1600s Virginia. Outdoors, visitors can board replicas of the three ships that sailed from England to Virginia in 1607, explore life-size re-creations of the colonists' fort and a Powhatan village, and tour a riverfront discovery area to learn about European, Powhatan and African economic activities associated with water. Costumed historical interpreters describe and demonstrate daily life in the early 17th century.

Ascension Island (Georgetown)
4/30/2020 10:00:00 AM
4/30/2020 6:00:00 PM

Ascension Island was once a regular staging post for ships to South Africa. More recently it became known for its involvement in the Falklands War. Watch for frigate-birds swooping down to catch flying-fish as you arrive at this far-flung strategic British island colony and key RAF staging-post, with its hi-tech satellite relay station. Ascension Island is part of the British dependency of St Helena, in the South Atlantic Ocean, about midway between Africa and South America. It is about 700 miles north-west of St Helena. The small, volcanic island, with an area of 34 sq mi, was sighted by the Portuguese in 1501, but it was uninhabited until the exile of Napoleon to St Helena in 1815, when the British established a garrison here to guard against his escape. Huge numbers of sea turtles and sooty terns breed on the island. Georgetown is the main settlement.

The island’s capital, Bridgetown, is one of the Caribbean's major free ports, bustling with activity. Trafalgar Square features the monument to Horatio Nelson. Facing the square are handsome structures of the House of Assembly and the Legislative buildings. George Washington worshipped at St. Michael’s Cathedral during the only trip he made outside of the United States. Housed in former British military prison buildings, the Barbados Museum is divided into various galleries that feature exhibits depicting the history of Barbados from the pre-Columbian period to modern times.
Built in 1816, Gun Hill Signal Station is the finest of several signal stations on the island. The white limestone lion behind the garrison is a well-known landmark. Barbados boasts excellent golf courses. A wide range of watersports is available at hotels and special watersports centers.
